About Score
Nathan composed a piece for a clip from the film American Werewolf in London, aiming to capture its nostalgic, classic Hollywood vibe similar to scores from Jaws, E.T., and Aliens. Drawing inspiration from composers like John Williams, Alan Silvestri, and James Horner, he focused on simple themes enriched by harmony and rhythm, using Spitfire Audio's "Abbey Road One Collection" to achieve the quintessential Hollywood sound as found in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Rambo.
The piece was divided into six sections, beginning with bars 3–10 that evoke a horror film atmosphere with a faded piano in C minor and high-pitched, sustained strings. Bars 11–39 transition to A flat major with piano and oboe, introducing a mysterious, gloomy tone. At bar 15, the score reinforces the on-screen titles with sustained brass chords and staccato woodwinds in C minor, suggesting a lurking menace. In bars 21–40, ominous strings in E flat major take over before the harp replaces the woodwinds’ melodic line. Bar 40 concludes the opening credits with a nostalgic chord. Overall, Nathan’s composition seamlessly integrates with the film, illustrating how effective simplicity and carefully chosen instrumentation can be.
